AP Studio Art: Drawing
2021 | Exam score 5/5
This is a collection of works about my memories using bubbles as a metaphor. They represent memories that have disappeared and the memories that take their place as people grow up. Memories are subsistence but also untouchable. I use two colours repeatedly, magenta for the tenderness of childhood and violet to represent growth and adulthood. Through trial and error I found the best way to make bubbles was using hand soap, water, bubble soap and argerlic ink. Using a bubble straw I could make the shapes bigger and clearer, with a smaller straw makes the shape’s more complex. Memories are unique because they allow me to begin to repair my mistake. This series allows me to fantasize and create expectations about the future, even if they won’t happen exactly the way I want it to.
Me, Myself and I

I used bubbles as a metaphor to represent my memories that have disappeared and also the memories that take their place as people grow up. Memories, like bubbles, have substance but are untouchable. I used two colors repeatedly and symbolically: magenta for the tenderness of childhood and violet to represent growth and adulthood. By documenting this piece in four different seasons, I place my work into a fourth-dimension, representing age and memories as they exist in time.

Posca pens and a sharpie pen on a glass panel.
8'' W x 10'' H
Showing different sides to my emotions, I used line pens on a glass panel with bubbles cut out into 3D layers. I use two colors repeatedly and symbolically: magenta for the tenderness of childhood and violet to represent growth and adulthood. Through trial and error I found the best way to make the bubble prints was to use hand soap, water, bubble soap and acrylic ink. Using different sized straws I created a variety, making the bubble shapes bigger and clearer with a larger straw, and with a smaller straw making the shape’s more detailed and complex. Paper tubes and plastic cups were also used to make tiny bubbles inside bigger ones.
Moment
Acrylic paint and ratarder on Canvas
14" W x 11" H
Visual illustration of the movement of my hands releasing away bubbles, which represent my memories. I realize that I cannot stay in my past, and that in fact, it is better to be yourself in the now. I use bubbles to represent the present, fleeting and temporary, but also the only thing that is truly real in the moment. Memories are unique because they allow me to begin to repair my mistakes. This series allows me to fantasize and create expectations about the future, even if they won’t happen exactly the way I want it to. Using acrylic paints and retarder allowed me to create a soft color transition and smooth texture.
